Both vinyards and the Distillery has been operating for five generations under the name LA BOUBÉE in the Department of Gers, in the appellation Armagnac Ténarèze. Alexandre Ladeveze currently manages the estate. It is the second largest area of the three Armagnac ‘terroirs’. It has clay-limestone soils, which tend to produce powerful and full bodied spirits. To produce Armagnac they use the oldest vines, aged from 40 to 60 years. There are 17 hectares currently planted with vines, of which 14 hectares are dedicated to the Armagnac with 9 varieties; Ugni Blanc, Folle Blanche, Baco 22A, Plant de Graisse, Mauzac Blanc and Rose, Clairette of Biscay, Columbard, and Jurançon white. The goal is to have the 10 grape varieties allowed in the production of the appellation, it remains to find the Meslier Saint François.
They use no chemical, insecticidal and anti botrytis, nor oenological products. Harvesting is mechanical, distillation in December. They separate all the grape varieties during the distillation process. Each Varietal is separately aged in local oak barrels from 8 to 12 months, then put in old barrels, to keep the expression of each varietal.
After all these bases of grapes they do 5 product categories, there are three categories that have a reduced alcohol volume of between 42-48% vol:
– a blend of grape varieties and years
– vintages blend of grapes of the same year.
– mono varietals vintages
The there are two cask strength categories:
– monos varietals vintages
– mono varietal blends, which is call “Armagnac on measurement”.
